Discover Calabria

The southern-most tip of Italy: over 800 km of coastline, green mountains and the land of Pythagoras

Welcome to Calabria

Calabria is the southern-most tip of Italy, with over 500 miles (800 km) of coastline. Its main cities (provinces) are Cosenza, Catanzaro, Reggio Calabria, Crotone and Vibo Valentia. Cosenza hosts the University of Calabria (UNICAL), the venue of IEEE CYB Conf 2027.

Calabria was the land of Pythagoras, who founded his mathematical school in the city of Kroton, on the Ionian Sea side, more than 2000 years ago in the Magna Graecia period.

Calabrian Cuisine

One of Italy's most traditional and noteworthy cuisines!

Witness the famous Calabrian hot pepper (peperoncino), found in most typical Calabrian dishes: from toasted bread with n'duja sausage or sardines — called the "caviar of the poor" — to pork sausages, from pasta sauces to fish dishes.

The strong flavor of hot pepper contrasts with the sweet taste of the Tropea red onion, protected by the PGI quality mark. Other delicacies include extra-virgin olive oil, bergamot liqueurs, liquorice, citron and herbs, honey and jams, and homemade pasta (strangugghj, fileja, maccaruni) still made using the old methods.

Finally, a great variety of Calabrian red, white and rosé wines (Cirò, Librandi, Magliocco, Greco di Bianco) can be found and tasted.
